Removing the Sea Grass Rug

Removing the sea grass rug that Romeo destroyed is almost as bad as moving.

Hard at work

I guess we all got tired of digging up monkey grass. Nick is working on building the playset.

Mark and I took out the rest of the viney fence & he's been weed wacking & clearing behind the fence.

I've been cutting up the viney fence sections & large brush and helping Nick as needed. Fun!

Tree removal

With the help of Matt, a friend from work, the tree is down. Now we're another step closer to getting the kids new playset built.

I knew that the tree was not a solid trunk at the bottom, but I had no idea it was seriously rotten most of the way up.

As a result of the rot, the tree didn't fall as expected, it splintered & fell to the side taking out the corner of Nick's table. He seems to be taking it rather well.

Guess we'll be adding table repair to the to-do list.... Poor table.

Brandon's 6th Birthday Bash was a space theme. He told me he wanted a solar system cake. It turned out pretty well & in the process I learned to paint on fondant - so did Jamie & Mom. Nick made a couple of photo cut outs. I chose a couple clip art pictures & he projected them onto large foam core boards and traced them. He also added little handles to the backs so the kids fingers wouldn't show when we took the pictures. They turned out great!Laedyn, our little hooligan, had a great time making silly faces at me... I had mark blow up a bunch of balloons and stuff a high bounce ball in each one - we called them comets... The kids had to try to throw them thru the hoola hoops. The balls inside the ballons made them fly in unpredictable patterns. The kids had a great time.Brandon decorated a piece of PVC pipe to look like a rocket for a ring toss game. We used glow in the dark bracelets for the rings, and then the kids got to keep the bracelets.I made an earth pinata. It didn't take long for the kids to destroy it. Lesson learned about pinatas? Don't use a teeball bat and don't forget a blindfold! It only took four hits. I don't think anyone was too horribly disappointed beacause there were a ton of goodies in that thing.

Some Proper Snow!

The snow is coming down pretty heavily - especially for Central Arkansas! It was a complete surprise to wake up to this morning when the school district called with the snow day announcement.

Brandon says this is the biggest snowball in the world.

The kids have never gotten dressed and out the door so fast in the morning. They didn't even eat breakfast first. Sounds like the snow will linger all day too, so they'll have lots of opportunity to enjoy it.

Disgusting digestive science

Brandon got a "disgusting science" kit from Nick for Christmas. They did their first scientific demonstration today - digestion...

If you take a balloon (stomach), add a little vegetable oil to prevent sticking, tear up (chew) some bread to stuff in (swallow) the balloon, add some vinegar (stomach acid) and mush it up in the balloon til squishy (digested)....

... When you squeeze it out you have ... Gross. Perfectly disgusting science for silly little boys.

Ice day

Lots of frozen precipitation on the roads today so it's a day home from work & school. The kids spent time exploring their inner artists.

An Afternoon Walk

The trail has a few of these big decorative circles that the kids like to run around & around.

We climbed up some abandoned stairs and and up a wooded path to find a pretty little stream.

Nick went off trail for a bit, but says he didn't find anything interesting.
